Ukraine is a country of 43 million people with an estimated Jewish population of 200,000. The Jews living in Ukraine have been profoundly affected by the political and economic instability that have wracked the country. Thousands are trapped in conflict zones in the east. Thousands more have fled the fighting. Jewish Federations are planning to allocate millions of dollars to our partner agencies on the ground, the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) and the Jewish Agency For Israel (JAFI). But the urgent needs continue. Through our partners the JDC & JAFI we are working to meet both the immediate and short term needs which already total $20M.

Your gift to the UIA Ukrainian Emergency Relief Funds supports:

  • Humanitarian relief: We will support the work of our partner, the American Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), in providing food and medical relief to those in need, both the most vulnerable Jews and the new vulnerable who are taking refuge from the fighting and conflict.
  • Protecting lives and increasing security: The Jewish Agency for Israel, one of our partner's, has mapped the Ukrainian Jewish community's infrastructure and is providing immediate security grants to ensure that the community is protected from looting and attacks.
  • Securing temporary housing for people in transit: Assisting internally displaced people in multiple locations.
  • Evacuation from conflict zones: The Jewish Agency for Israel is also arranging evacuation and Aliyah for Ukrainian Jewish refugees and will also provide additional relief for refugees in transit.

We are one Jewish people. It is thanks to your support that our global partners are in place today and able to protect and care for the remaining at-risk Jews of Ukraine. In these anxious days, your support is quite literally a lifeline.
