Israel Strategy

Jewish Federations of Canada - UIA is responsible for ensuring that there is active Canadian input and influence on matters of global Jewish concern as well as appropriate oversight of Canadian-funded programs and projects.

The primary role of the Israel office of Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA is to monitor social welfare and humanitarian projects and programs that are funded by Canadian donations. Israel activities are supervised by a volunteer Israel Residents Distribution Committee made up of Canadians living in Israel. Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA must ensure that all funds are dispersed according to Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) regulations.

  • Israel Partnership Programs

Canadian communities invest financial and human resources in struggling and underdeveloped regions in Israel to generate waves of change based on shared ideas, challenges and models of success. Israeli and Canadian communities collaboratively address social issues with projects focused on youth, education, social welfare and capacity building.

Israel Partnership Programs and Investments are focused on:

  • Education

Projects include post-secondary scholarships and early childhood centers, programs for gifted students and pupils that need extra attention.

  • Healthcare

Canadian federations play a key role in the development of health services in Israel’s periphery. Investments include the expansion of Yoseftal hospital in Eilat and the establishment of Bar-Ilan University medical faculty in Safed.

  • Innovation

Partnerships contribute significantly to innovative projects which support the economic and social advancement of the communities. Each project is a potential catalyst for change, like Israel’s pioneering renewable energy industry.

  • Global Representation

Jewish Federations of Canada – UIA and Canadian Federations are engaged in unique alliances with the Jewish Agency for Israel (JAFI), the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), Keren Hayesod – UIA (KH-UIA) and the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA). Comprehensive involvement with JAFI, JDC, KH-UIA and JFNA provides invaluable benefits to the Canadian Jewish community with regard to the experience and expertise of these organizations.
