We Remember: International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2017

We Remember

International Holocaust Remembrance Day  2017

Today, January 27th, hundreds of communities across the globe will commemorate the victims of the Holocaust on International Holocaust Remembrance Day (IHRD). It is a day that encourages the development of educational programs about Holocaust history to help prevent future acts of genocide

'Since the Holocaust, a number of genocides and government led mass murders have occurred - the most recent case in Syria. We must broaden our efforts to ensure the memory of the Holocaust and all other genocides is never forgotten.

Only through education, can we hope to end the scourge of hatred and intolerance which has so often resulted in even more heinous crimes. While we cannot undo the past, we can change the present and future.

We can best honour the memory of Holocaust victims and so many millions of innocent victims of genocide, by working together to build a kinder and more compassionate world for all members of the human family.'

- Eli Rubenstein, National Director of March of the Living Canada

Elie Wiesel 1928-2016
'For the survivor who chooses to testify, it is clear: his duty is to bear witness for the dead and for the living. He has no right to deprive future generations of a past that belongs to our collective memory. To forget would be not only dangerous but offensive; to forget the dead would be akin to killing them a second time.'

'It is hard to put into words just how monumental the experience of the Young Adult March of the Living was for me....We marched together to make a statement that we will not forget and we will continue to tell the stories of each person who suffered at the hands of the Nazis and each person whose story was cut short.'

Max Eisen, 87 Survivor, Author, 15-time March of the Living Accompanying Survivor
'As I walk on this familiar soil I will recall all those who perished and I will say a prayer in their memory...... And I will be comforted knowing there is a future for the Jewish people and that the memory of our six million will always be cherished.'
